Candidates and Waterboarding: A Modest Proposal
November 8th, 2007 by DamonI was chatting with my friend Nirav the other day and our discussion led us to the following question:
Since waterboarding serves as a sort of truth serum (why else would we use it to fight terror?), and since presidential candidates have a tendency to equivocate, obfuscate, and generally be less than truthful, shouldn’t we waterboard candidates during the debates to make sure they’re being honest with the American people?
What’s a little temporary discomfort if it ensures they’re telling us the truth in a time of war? (Though, as Nirav said, and I feel the same way, “seeing Dennis Kucinich waterboarded might make me cry.”)
Should we waterboard our candidates during debates? Vote in the poll here.

Did I miss something or are you now cross posting on DailyKos?

yeah, but anyone can post there, so it’s not a big sign of success or anything.

I totally agree. And I don’t read Daily Kos.

tim russert: mayor giuliani, you were so sexy on 9-11, and i love you so hard and i feel like more of a man when i’m around you. when do you think life begins?
giuliani: life, for me, began on 9-11, but also it begins when a strict constructionist would believe it begins, and i remember watching the re-construction on 9-11, which i achieved singlehandedly, which was a victory for the sanctity of life. and nobody who hasn’t run a city, state or business would know that.
tim russert: ok, boys, drown him. (gagging noises) now, rudy, when do you think life begins?
giuliani: gurgle.
and just like that, our political discourse is improved.
